EnergyGuard: Developing Large-Scale AI Testing and Experimentation Facilities for Energy Infrastructure Solutions

EnergyGuard is developing and enhancing a network of artificial intelligence (AI) testing and experimentation facilities to evaluate AI solutions in the energy sector – including electricity grids, energy supply, renewable energy sources, energy communities, and energy efficiency. By testing and assessing these solutions, the project promotes the development of effective, sustainable, and reliable products and services that will be ready for broader market implementation.
The Significance of the Project for Riga
Riga, like other European cities, is committed to enhancing energy efficiency and sustainability. Integrating AI into energy systems can optimize resource use, reduce environmental impact, and promote smart city development. By participating in EnergyGuard, Riga contributes to testing innovative AI solutions that enhance energy planning, especially for multi-apartment building renovations.
Target of the Project
To develop an AI-based tool for assessing the return on energy efficiency and climate investments in multi-apartment buildings and to reduce associated risks.

Project Activities
✔ Digitization of energy audit data within the Construction Information System for use in developing the AI tool;
✔ Structuring and integrating energy audit recommendations into the AI tool;
✔ Developing an AI solution to assess investment returns and risks related to energy efficiency and climate actions in multi-apartment buildings;
✔ Creating a digital twin of multi-apartment buildings;
✔ Organizing an informative campaign for Riga’s multi-apartment residents about building renovations and the use of AI tools.
Testbed Territory in Riga
The project’s pilot activities will focus on multi-apartment buildings across Riga in cooperation with the State Construction Control Bureau (BVKB).

✔ Developed AI tool for assessing energy efficiency and climate investment returns in multi-apartment buildings;
✔ Structured and digitized energy audit data for better planning and decision-making;
✔ Increased public awareness and knowledge about sustainable renovations and the use of AI technologies.
