Riga Digital Agency is the Latvian coordinator of the European Digital Infrastructure Consortium (EDIC) Local Digital Twins & CitiVERSE, aiming to promote the development and integration of local digital twins on a European scale. The goal of this initiative is to establish a unified network of urban digital twins, helping cities manage urban development more efficiently by utilizing data analysis and artificial intelligence.
CitiVERSE is a European Union initiative that supports cities in developing and using digital twins – virtual models that mirror the real-world environment and urban processes. These digital twins enable the simulation and analysis of various urban development scenarios, such as traffic flow or air quality, helping decision-makers improve city planning and urban sustainability. The initiative is supported by the European Digital Infrastructure Consortium (EDIC), which fosters cross-country collaboration, enabling cities across Europe to share knowledge and adopt unified, efficient technological solutions.
The Significance of the Project for Riga
Digital twins allow for the simulation and forecasting of urban development, analyzing key aspects such as traffic flow, air quality, and sustainable infrastructure development. For Riga, this is an opportunity to enhance city management and implement innovative solutions that contribute to a more sustainable and resident-friendly urban environment.
Target of the Project
The objective of the project is to create a cohesive and interconnected network of local digital twins in cities and regions across the European Union, as well as to support the preparation of new sustainable projects based on solution interoperability and infrastructure development through joint procurements.
Benefits for Residents
✔ More efficient urban development planning based on data analysis and simulations;
✔ Improved public services and enhanced urban living quality;
✔ Greater resident involvement in decision-making through access to transparent data.
Project Activities
✔ Establishment of a legal EDIC consortium in Latvia;
✔ Research on unified technology-based solutions and preparation of new sustainable projects based on solution interoperability and infrastructure development through joint procurements;
✔ Submission of project applications for announced European Commission funding calls.
Project Results
✔ Creation of a unified smart data space for Riga;
✔ Improved decision-making processes through reliable data models;
✔ Increased capacity of Latvian municipalities to adopt digital solutions for development.
