Detection of Cargo Vehicle Tire Overload and Overheating Using Real-Time Video Analytics

The project enables real-time identification of overloaded or technically unsuitable cargo vehicles through video analytics and artificial intelligence solutions, without the need to interfere with the road surface.

The Significance of the Project for Riga

In 2023, with the support of the Innovation Fund, a prototype for detecting cargo vehicle tire overload and overheating using video analytics was developed. The existing system could identify violations only through manual video review, requiring significant human resources.

Target of the Project

The project aims to implement an online monitoring system for detecting cargo vehicle tire overload and overheating using artificial intelligence technologies for tire identification, wheel radius measurement, and axle count determination.

Benefits for Residents

✔ Safer roads and reduced accident risk caused by overloaded or technically faulty cargo vehicles
✔ Less road surface damage and, consequently, lower maintenance costs

Project Activities

✔ Installation of an industrial computer, electrical cabinet, brackets, and other components
✔ System configuration in collaboration with Riga Technical University
✔ Functionality testing together with the Control Division of the Department of Outdoor Space and Mobility

Project Implementation Area

Imanta district

Project Results

✔ Implementation of a real-time video analytics system for detecting overloaded cargo vehicles
✔ Collection of statistical data for long-term analysis and planning
