The project established a system for measuring vehicle-generated noise levels in the urban environment using noise sensors and video surveillance cameras. The solution enables the collection and analysis of data on noise sources and intensity, providing a basis for developing proposals to reduce noise pollution.
The Significance of the Project for Riga
Residents of central Riga frequently report issues with excessive traffic noise. Before this project, the city lacked a unified, data-driven system for measuring noise levels at specific locations and identifying their causes.
Target of the Project
To conduct continuous monitoring of vehicle-generated noise and, based on data analysis, develop a set of measures aimed at reducing average and maximum noise levels in the city.
Benefits for Residents
✔ A quieter and more peaceful urban environment, especially in central areas and high-traffic zones
✔ Reduced traffic noise, improving the quality of life in central neighborhoods
✔ Lower stress levels and a healthier living environment
Project Activities
✔ Installation of noise sensors
✔ Installation of video surveillance cameras
✔ Analysis of collected noise level data
Implementation Area
Intersections of Stabu and Baznīcas Streets, Eksporta and Hanzas Streets, and Barona and Lāčplēša Streets
Project Results
✔ Identification of main noise sources and preparation of proposals for noise reduction measures
✔ Data collected to support noise reduction initiatives within Riga’s Sustainable Development Strategy
