Riga is joining the international project TRACER-X (Strengthening Multimodal Transport Through First- and Last-Mile Solutions), which aims to promote sustainable mobility in cities across the Baltic Sea region by developing environmentally friendly transport solutions and reducing CO₂ emissions.
As part of the project, Riga plans to establish at least one cargo bike-sharing station, providing at least five cargo bikes for public use. The pilot project aims to test the use of cargo bikes for small-scale goods transport, assess the needs of residents and businesses, and explore the potential of this solution in Riga’s urban environment.
Cargo bike-sharing can offer a convenient alternative to cars for certain goods deliveries, contributing to more environmentally friendly urban logistics. Data and user feedback collected during the pilot project will help assess the effectiveness of the solution and its potential for further development.
TRACER-X brings together cities and organisations across the Baltic Sea region to test innovative mobility solutions, exchange experiences, and encourage the adoption of successful approaches in other cities.
The project is funded by the Central Baltic Programme 2021–2027. Its total budget is approximately EUR 4 million, and the planned implementation period is 36 months. Forum Virium Helsinki is the lead partner, while the project partners include organisations from Helsinki, Stockholm and Tallinn, as well as Riga City Municipality.
