Augmented reality tour pilot in Riga’s Great Cemetery to enhance digital access to cultural heritage

The project implements an augmented reality (AR) digital excursion pilot in the Great Cemetery of Riga, aimed at improving access to cultural heritage through modern digital technologies. The project will create an interactive экскурсия route allowing visitors to explore the area, its key objects, and their historical context using smartphones.

The solution is based on WebAR technology, enabling users to access 3D models and additional information without installing extra applications, making the experience accessible and user-friendly.

The Significance of the Project for Riga

The Great Cemetery is an important cultural and historical site in Riga, but limited information accessibility and navigation challenges reduce visitors’ ability to fully explore it.

There is a growing demand for digital and interactive solutions that make cultural heritage more accessible and engaging. The project addresses this by introducing innovative methods for cultural interpretation and increasing public interest in Riga’s history.

It also supports smart city development by demonstrating the use of digital technologies in public spaces and enhancing educational and accessible urban environments.
