Development of a digital 3D virtual tour to improve accessibility of Mežciems Social Care Centre

The project involves the development of a digital 3D virtual tour at the Riga Social Care Centre “Mežciems”, providing an interactive and remote way to explore the facility’s premises, infrastructure, services, and daily environment. Using 3D scanning and digital modelling technologies, a user-friendly virtual environment will be created and integrated into the institution’s website.

The virtual tour allows users to navigate through spaces digitally, understand their functions, and access detailed information about social care and rehabilitation services, as well as additional multimedia content such as images and videos.

The Significance of the Project for Riga

here is an increasing need for digital solutions that improve access to information, service transparency, and remote engagement with public infrastructure. In the social care sector, such solutions are still limited in Latvia.

Public awareness of social care centres and their services is often insufficient, which can create uncertainty for potential clients and their families. The project addresses this by enabling remote access to clear and structured information about the institution.

At the same time, the project supports the municipality’s paperless policy and promotes digitalisation of social services, contributing to Riga’s development as a smart, citizen-oriented city.

To develop an innovative digital 3D virtual tour of the Riga Social Care Centre “Mežciems” that provides remote access to information about infrastructure and services, while enhancing service transparency, accessibility, and digitalisation.
