AURORA – Urban Planning Solutions for Climate Resilience and Quality of Life Improvement in the EU Boreal Region
Status: Ongoing projects

Climate change has significant impacts on the environment, public health, well-being, and overall quality of life. In Europe, including the Boreal region, which encompasses Scandinavia and the Baltic states, rising temperatures and precipitation levels, increased rainfall and river flows, shrinking snow and ice cover, and the spread of pests are already being observed. The AURORA project focuses on enhancing adaptation and resilience by developing innovative, data-driven urban planning solutions and early warning systems to mitigate climate-related risks and improve the quality of life in the Boreal region.
The significance of the project for Riga
Like other cities in the Boreal region, Riga faces increasing challenges due to climate change, including rising temperatures, increased precipitation, and extreme weather events. These changes impact public health, urban infrastructure, and overall quality of life. The AURORA project strengthens Riga’s ability to adapt to these challenges by developing innovative urban planning strategies and tools based on data-driven solutions and early warning systems.
